Dear Friends:

The Senate needs 60 votes to give more money to ICE before the end of this month. That means they need Democratic votes and our Democratic Senators have power. They’ve got to use it! We and our elected representatives have to do everything we can to stop the flow of money to ICE, the armed goons and thugs destroying our country. There is no going back to normal. There is no hoping we can wait things out until the November elections. The Regime’s attack on our cities, condoned murder of citizens and occupation of Minnesota has a clear purpose. It is to make sure we are fearful and don’t fight back so they can end free and fair elections in this country. We have to do everything we can to not fund this war on our country and Constitution. That includes another government shutdown. It’s pain now, or even more pain later. There is no avoiding economic and social pain any more.

It’s time for each of us to contact Senators Kaine and Warner to tell them to vote against the DHS/ICE budget bill to give ICE more money, or we will look for primary challengers. ICE is a secret police force enlarged to terrorize us and cement the destruction of our Constitution and the Rule of Law. They murder, break into homes, beat up people with no accountability. They are lawless thugs. This is NOT the time to give them more money. Many thanks to Congressman Beyer for his “no” vote in the House today. It’s up to the Senate now.
Senator Kaine is not up for re-election this year, but if Senator Warner will not vote against more ICE funding, I will look for someone to challenge him in the primary this spring. I’m sure I am not alone. Don’t take excuses like ICE already has lots of money and more won’t make a difference. Don’t take excuses like it could end the filibuster….if it does, so be it. Make the Republicans end the filibuster. If they do, Democrats will have more power when we take the Senate. Don’t take excuses that it looks bad to not fund DHS. If Republicans want to pass a bill to fund DHS, make them negotiate after the bill is defeated. Democrats have power. They’ve got to use it.

Also, if you can, please find a way to show your support for and solidarity with Minnesota tomorrow. Indivisible, Visibility Brigades and others have called for National Demonstrations of solidarity with Minnesota this Friday, January 23. As I write this, it’s heartening to see in my national Visibility Brigade chat group after group around the country say they will be out on Friday. Our Rush Hour Resistance team will be out, too, of course: 3:30 to 5 pm on our Fairlington bridge. Join us if you can. We are all under attack. It is just a matter of time before we, too, will be threatened by hordes of masked ICE agents. If we don’t stop this, no one in our country will be safe from the whims of these thugs, as the shooting of Renee Good and bald faced lies to protect her executioner made clear. They want us to cower in fear. So far, they’ve just energized the Resistance. It is incredible what the people of Minnesota are doing. In many ways, Minnesota is fighting for all of us right now. See this link for some local demonstration events on the 23rd: https://www.mobilize.us/indivisible/?tag_ids=29277
That is why we need to be there for Minnesota as loudly as we can. Call, visit and/or email Senators Kaine and Warner. Come join me on the bridge.
