January 9 Blog: We Are Under Fascist Totalitarian Rule – Act Now

Dear Friends: 

It’s been quite a week. ICE revealed itself for what it is: a secret police force designed to terrorize everyone and make sure that the mid-term elections do not happen….or at least they don’t happen in Blue cities and states.

The cold blooded murder of Renee Good was horrifying. The Regime’s multiple lies – even though the videos showed and elected officials in Minnesota concurred that the Regime was lying – is even more chilling. Heather Cox Richardson said it was the sign that we are now under fascist totalitarian rule when the government says whatever it wants and considers it treason to contradict their lies. We’re not on the brink or heading there….we are there.

We’ve got to stop the solidification of that fascistic rule. The Regime has lost a few votes in Congress this week. Now is the time to keep the pressure on the Republicans. I highly recommend this latest explanation from Heather Cox Richardson (who is, in my mind, a national treasure). It is scary, inspiring ….and hopeful.

How many people see the truth of what happened to Renee Good? A lot. How many people see the natural progression from murderous ICE raids to violent voter suppression? I’m not sure. But they will. We just can’t have that realization happen when it’s too late.

To that end, I think we need a lot of pushback now, including a government shutdown over ICE funding until the Republicans back down. It will be difficult and painful but, I think, less difficult and painful than losing our right to vote next November. Indivisible and other groups are planning anti-ICE protests this weekend. My bridge team was planning to take off this weekend, but after listening to Heather….we’ll be out on Sunday from 2-3:30 pm. The weather should be good. Join us if you can!
