Dear Friends:

I am on my way home from a family wedding, so this blog will be short.

I hope everyone reading this is planning to do something to show resistance to the Regime on Saturday, the 18th: No Kings Day II. I believe this will be the biggest show of resistance to date. To make this kind of impact, we really need everyone to come out whether for a big demonstration or a small local one. Below are links to find events near you wherever you are, including overseas.

Andrea Pitzer’s comments in her recap of the past year lay out quite clearly where we are regarding the loss of our Democracy. We’ve got to stand up together now. It won’t mean the end of the Regime, but we can slow it down. If you can’t listen to her comments, just the last 2 minutes will do.

Take inspiration from our friends in Portland who are making frogs a “thing.” It’s crazy; it’s fun.

And, it is absolutely crucial to stopping the authoritarians who would have us afraid of them and are looking for any excuse they can find or make up to come down hard on all of us.

Speaking of “made up,” On October 10th, “House Speaker Mike Johnson blamed the peaceful No Kings Day of Action on October 18 for the ongoing government shutdown. After a few moments of laughter, the No Kings coalition issued the following statement. It begins, “Speaker Johnson is running out of excuses for keeping the government shut down…” See the following link: https://www.nokings.org/news/statement-re-speaker-johnson-comments-on-no-kings?SQF_SOURCE=indivisible

MobilizeUs has a number of regional events here: https://www.mobilize.us/nokings/)

Indivisible also has several links: to sign up for an existent protest or to register your own demonstration. Please check out this link (https://indivisible.org/) and go to the tab marked “Take Action.”

Saturday, we are standing up and fighting back nonviolently with all the humor and joy we can. Be part of it.

Yours in peaceful resistance,

Libby
