September 29 Blog: Time to Vote and Jimmy Kimmel

Dear Friends:

Those of us in Virginia have a big responsibility going into November.   The races for Governor, Lt. Governor and Attorney General are being closely watched nationwide and are considered a bellwether for where our country is headed.

We need to not only win, but win big.  As much as I enjoy going to the polls on Election Day, I plan to vote early for the Democratic ticket to make sure nothing happens to prevent me from voting.  I still plan to drop by the polls on Election Day to say hello to the poll workers I have known for decades. But, I encourage all of you who are voting to consider voting early, too.  We need every single vote for democracy we can find.  We need to give the Resistance encouragement and show the MAGA world that they are not as strong as they think.  We need to show clearly that the wanton destruction of this government's services and security, as well as the masked thug government, does not go over well anywhere except in a few dark corners.

We’ve just seen how powerful large voting turnouts can be.  Whether you usually watch his show or not, I suspect we all have been watching Jimmy Kimmel lately.  I think his reinstatement was a clear win for democracy:  all the people who voted by canceling their subscriptions, calling their representatives, writing to Disney, Sinclair, Nexstar, and ABC forced powerful commercial enterprises to rethink their bowing to the Regime.  I think some media tycoons were surprised at how angry people were and how unpopular the Regime’s policies and tactics are.  This is a momentum we can build on.

With that in mind, please mark your calendars for Saturday, October 18: No Kings Day II.  It is looking like this may be the largest nationwide demonstration yet.  My Rush Hour Resistance team will be out on the bridge that day and some of us will be going downtown as well.  As my 97 year old mother said when I told her about the No Kings protests:  “But America doesn’t do Kings!”   No, we don’t.  And we need to keep it that way.   I’m hopeful that when we look back, Jimmy Kimmel, October 18 No Kings, and the Virginia elections will be seen as the beginning of the end for Trumpism.

As always, I hope this information has been helpful and, if it has, please share my blog with a friend!

Yours in peaceful resistance
